Jacksonville, Florida: Redefining the Future of a Tech City

I was at a local Jacksonville Business Professionals Spring Educational Event recently as a panelist and Katie Bakewell of NLP Logix said something that stuck with me. She emphatically stated that she's irritated by people claiming that "Jacksonville COULD become the next tech city."

In an even louder voice she followed that with: "Jacksonville IS a Tech City."

There is no truer of a statement today. I spoke around AI transforming business — especially in sales — however there's a parallel story unfolding in the background that makes this moment even more compelling. It's not just about the tools. It's about where this transformation is happening.

I'm proud to say it's right here at Home!

While AI is reshaping how sales teams operate — acting as the "coach," the playbook, even the real-time strategist — Jacksonville is quietly becoming a proving ground for the very technologies powering that shift.

Cecil Spaceport

Take Cecil Spaceport, a former naval airfield turned licensed commercial spaceport. This isn't theoretical innovation — it's active infrastructure supporting next-generation aerospace, hypersonic testing, and advanced mobility systems. The same kinds of systems that rely on AI for navigation, optimization, and decision-making.

It's home to Florida's 3rd largest runway at 12,503 feet — making it prime to get approved for the re-entry license with the FAA, a crucial step towards becoming a two-way spaceport logistics hub and achieving commercial viability.

$9 Billion in Downtown Development

On the construction front, there is over $9 Billion under design and construction in progress in Downtown Jacksonville alone — from the soon-to-be-completed Four Seasons Hotel & Residences to the new Jaguars $1.4 Billion Stadium Renovation, coined the Stadium of the Future.

eVTOL and Flying Taxis

At the state level, Florida is also pushing forward with early testing of eVTOL (flying taxis) — electric vertical takeoff aircraft that depend heavily on AI to function safely and efficiently. This isn't science fiction anymore; it's real-world testing happening in the same ecosystem where businesses are learning to leverage AI in their daily operations.

So what does this have to do with your sales team?

Everything.

The same way aerospace companies are using AI to reduce risk, increase precision, and accelerate outcomes, your team can do the same in sales:

AI as the playbook — contextualizing your company for enablement

AI as the coach — a true champion working with you to improve

AI as the force multiplier — an analyzing resource to spend more time with your clients

A Growing Local Foundation

There's a growing foundation supporting this shift locally. Between efforts by local universities like University of North Florida, Florida State College at Jacksonville, and Jacksonville University aligning programs around AI, data science, and applied technology — and partnerships with specialized institutions like Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University feeding talent directly into business and aerospace environments — we are becoming more tech-enabled by the day.

Add in robotic advances in manufacturing and industry — from security to healthcare — and incubator-style initiatives like the Jacksonville Innovation Hub, Accelerate PV, and The Link, combined with increasing investment, visibility of startups, and access to capital across industries, and you get something rare: a city where AI isn't just being talked about — it's being applied across sectors in real time, in a collaborative style unmatched.

That's what makes this moment different — and more importantly, exciting. It's palpable. Go to events around town and you will see the intermingling of Government, Industry, Business, Education, Finance, Fresh Energy, and Fresh Ideas coming to life.

You're not just adopting AI tools in isolation. You're operating in a region and city that's building the future alongside you. Those in it know the collaboration is real; sharing for the sake of community growth and prosperity.

The future isn't coming. It's already being tested, built, and scaled right here in Jacksonville.

And the question isn't whether to adopt it. It's how fast you're willing to move to keep up.
