This Jax Data session is designed for SQL professionals who want to work with Microsoft Fabric notebooks without having to start with Spark or learn an entirely new approach. Speaker Jason Romans will demonstrate how DuckDB and Pure Python notebooks can be used to query Lakehouse data directly with familiar SQL syntax, including Parquet files, Delta tables, and Azure Blob storage. Attendees will also explore useful DuckDB SQL shortcuts, work through a large real-world flight dataset, and learn how to decide when T-SQL, Spark, or a Pure Python notebook is the right tool for the job. The session is especially relevant for DBAs, SQL developers, data engineers, and analytics professionals looking to expand into Microsoft Fabric while building on the SQL skills they already have. The evening also includes food, networking, announcements, and Q&A.
