Every successful company has a moment before anyone knows its name.
A founder steps onto a stage. An investor hears an idea for the first time. A conversation after a presentation turns into a partnership.
Those moments don't always make the headlines β but they often shape what comes next.
That's the spirit behind the Jacksonville Venture Competition (JVC), returning for its fourth year on August 19 at The Link in Nocatee.
More than a pitch competition
JVC has become one of the places where Jacksonville's entrepreneurial ecosystem comes together. Founders, investors, mentors, students, and business leaders gather not only to watch companies compete, but to exchange ideas, build relationships, and discover what's being built right here in Northeast Florida.
Founded by Matthew Chang, founder of Chang Robotics, the competition was created after recognizing a challenge many growing startup communities face: exceptional ideas exist, but founders often need greater visibility and stronger connections to capital.
Over the past four years, dozens of startups have stepped onto the JVC stage. While one company ultimately receives an investment opportunity from the Chang Robotics Fund, many participants have gone on to secure funding, strategic partnerships, and valuable introductions that extended well beyond competition day.
The people in the room
This year's program brings together an impressive lineup of speakers and judges who represent many of the organizations helping shape Jacksonville's innovation economy.
Attendees will hear from Lucas Wyman, founder of Duval Software, and Ryan Smith of the Jacksonville Innovation Hub, alongside other entrepreneurs and community leaders who continue to strengthen the region's startup ecosystem. Their conversations will explore entrepreneurship, innovation, and what it takes to grow a company in today's business environment.
The founders pitching their companies will present before a distinguished panel of judges that includes Jim Stallings, of PS27 Ventures, Randall Thomas, of The Link, Forrest Hayes, of Chang Robotics, and Summer Vyne, of Anuvision Technologies - leaders who have built companies, invested in entrepreneurs, and helped accelerate innovation across Northeast Florida.
That combination is what makes JVC more than a competition. It's a room filled with experience.
Why it's worth showing up
It's a place where founders receive real feedback, investors discover emerging companies, and attendees gain firsthand insight into where Jacksonville's innovation ecosystem is heading.
Whether you're launching a business, looking to invest, supporting entrepreneurs, or simply curious about the next generation of companies being built in our region, the Jacksonville Venture Competition offers a unique opportunity to be part of those conversations.
Sometimes the biggest opportunity isn't the winning pitch. It's the person you meet after it.
